HAU WELCOMES THAI UNIVERSITY DELEGATION

Three academic officials from Huachiew Chalermprakiet University (HCU) of Thailand visited the University on November 20, 2014 to lay the groundwork for the establishment of an international academic cooperation between the two universities.

The visiting delegation from HCU is composed of Dr. Uraipan Janvanichyanont, vice-president for Academic Affairs, Dr. Somsri Jansom, assistant to the dean, Faculty of Liberal Arts, and Dr. Jonathan Carreon, coordinator for English for Specific Purposes Section.

HCU is the largest Chinese university and one of the top private universities in Thailand. It was founded in 1941 as a nursing and midwifery school by Poh Teck Tung Foundation, itself the biggest Chinese charitable institution in that country which began in 1910.

HCU’s visit to the University is part of its internationalization thrusts and in line with the ASEAN economic integration next year.

HAU Vice-President for Academic Affairs Dr. Jaime Cortez led school administrators in receiving the Thai visitors to the University. In his welcome remarks, Dr. Cortez noted the University’s own internationalization efforts and cited the recent academic cooperative agreements which HAU only recently signed with foreign universities from Korea, Japan, and Australia.

Dr. Janvanichyanont, on the other hand, thanked the University for its hospitality, even as she expressed high hopes for and optimism over the contemplated international linkage.

Other HAU officials who welcomed the Thai guests were Vice-President for External Affairs and Corporate Communications Robert Tantingco, College of Hospitality and Tourism Management Dean Gertrude Tuazon, Academic Research Head Rio Yutuc, Office of International Affairs Head Ronaldo Lapis, and AB Communications Program Chairperson Leslie Manalo.

The HCU officials toured the campus after a round of discussion on the proposed academic cooperation which followed the brief Welcome Program emceed by Ms. Manalo.
